More with Less?

Posted by: Kellie on: November 1, 2009

I know some of you out there probably have the More with Less cookbook.  I am looking for recommendations of your favorite recipes.  So please let me know what it is from there you like to cook.

To those of you who don’t have this cookbook but have a recipe you would like pass on, you are welcome.  But one condition- no short cuts.  In other words I don’t have access to lots of canned stuff here – which seems necessary for most of the stuff I regularly cook!  I feel like I am learning how to cook all over again!

Kellie,

Living in China I can relate, and also having a sister that lived with us for several years that is allergic to wheat and gluten. There is a website out there called theglutenfreegoddess – but I’m not sure of the address, if you google it I’m sure you can find it. In any case, it has tons of recipes where everything is made from scratch, and you can substitute regular flour for all the fancy flours it calls for. I use her recipes all the time!

I have loads more as well – one day if I ever sit down to type them up I’ll send them to you. :)

if the luebe’s went to anyones wedding.. they have it! :)
i’ll send you some!

Soup! Not sure if you are in the mood for soup or not, but it’s one of my favorites. I use every veggie in the fridge plus leftover meat & noodles…yum. That’s the menu for tonight:)

the honey baked chicken is good.

I wish I could be more help! I can’t think of anything right now, but if I do, I will make sure to pass along :)

I’ve been making the Pakistani Kima for years. My family loves it! I use a can of corn instead of peas and serve it with rice and, of course, yogurt. Skillet Beef with Lentils is a favorite as is the Honey Baked chicken that Ibtisam mentioned. The Vietnamese Fried Rice is good too.

I really like Oatmeal Cake (p. 285), honey baked lentils (p.106), and zucchini bread (p. 82). People here seem to appreciate the cake and bread too, as desserts. :)

Our absolute favorite recipe is page 108, Kusherie (Egyptian rice and lentils). I just made it two days ago. Serve it with plain yogurt. If you make it someday when Hannah is over, she will love it. She liked it when we had it. Page 73 pancake mix is what I used all the time. I like the sauce on page 120 and it is very easy and cheap to buy over there. I like page 124. I used rice instead of noodles and put crushed up cornflakes on top. Page 125 rice was my staple too. Like others said, I love Pakistani Kima page 131. I like page 143 tuna or chicken turnovers. I like page 159 egg foo yung. Page 182 chicken pineapple skillet is great, as is page 186 Indian chicken. I used chicken breasts. I made vegetables au gratin page 220 for Thanksgiving. Page 235 Stir fry zucchini was a favorite too, as is zucchini egg foo yung page 237. I love page 270 apple crisp and so did Syrians over ice cream with whipped cream.

Do you have the cookbook Arabian cuisine? If so, let me know and I will send some of my favorites. I bought it in Cham in the store at the souq right outside the entrance to the mosque.
