DVD Pick

Filed under: What I'm into — by Kellie @ 6:10 pm

Okay I’m a big dork and I really can like some cheesy movies.  I’m the type if I find a movie that I like I can watch it twice in a row.  So that being said I am going to suggest a movie for a night at home.  Music and Lyrics.  It’s a romantic comedy about a former 80’s pop star.  I think that is why I like it.  I like romantic comedies (I know they are predictable but sometimes I want predictable) and I liked revisiting the 80’s a little bit!

I Cannot Vote for Barack Obama

Filed under: Dustin — by Kellie @ 9:02 am

There are many issues that I care about, but none is more important than the issue of abortion. I cannot in good conscience vote for one of the most pro choice candidates ever to run for president. Senator Obama has promised that the first act of his presidency would be to make the Freedom of Choice Act law. Essentially this act would eliminate any restrictions that states currently have on abortions. It would undercut laws against late term abortions, parental notification, and would give Federal funding for abortions. He has voted against the Infant Born Alive act in Illinois and supports partial birth abortion.

The main question in the whole prochoice/prolife debate is simple: What is the unborn? Is the unborn fetus a human being? If not, then it would not have the same rights I do. But if it is a human being, then it should have all the rights of any other human being (toddlers, teenagers, seniors, men, women, etc.). This is the question that we must always come back to.

What makes someone a human being? No one argues that toddlers aren’t human beings with full rights and protection under the law. But what makes them different than unborn babies? Why can we kill unwanted babies in the womb, but we can’t kill unwanted babies who are one year old?

It is not self awareness that makes one a human being, for monkeys are also self aware. It is not feeling emotions that makes one a human being, for dogs feel emotions. What is it that makes one human? DNA (and being created in the image of God). And there is no difference between one’s DNA when she is conceived and when she is an adult. Unborn babies are human (for a clear and compelling argument that unborn babies are human beings see The SLED Test).

If we justify the killing of these human beings, then what will keep us from justifying the killing of other humans (i.e. the disabled – 9 out of 10 babies with Down’s Syndrome are aborted)? At the Saddleback Forum Senator Obama was asked, “At what point does a baby get human rights, in your view?” He responded, “Well, you know, I think that whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity, you know, is above my pay grade.” Obama’s answer implies that he doesn’t know when human life begins. You would think, if there was any question, he would err on the side of life. He doesn’t.

If Obama supported killing toddlers if they were unwanted, no one would vote for him. But what is the difference between a toddler and an unborn baby? If you support Obama you must believe that unborn babies are not human beings, for no one who knows that unborn babies are human beings should vote for someone who thinks killing them should be legal.

Keep this simple fact in mind: In America 1.3 million babies are aborted every year. You can disagree with John McCain on the Iraq war, the economy or anything else, but I guarantee you that nothing he does as president will support the killing of 1.3 million human beings every year.

The issue of abortion is deeply personal for me. I am horrified to know that I live in a country that gives full legal protection to my son Elias, but that when we were fighting for the life of our son Owen, his legal protection and right to life were entirely dependent on the will of his mother. If Kellie didn’t want him she could have killed him. What makes Elias a full member of the human family with protection as a human being, but not Owen?

This video is quite graphic, but it shows the reality of abortion. If you can’t stomach watching it, ask yourself why. Are you avoiding the truth that abortion kills babies so that you can in good conscience vote for someone who supports this killing? This is not propaganda.

Barack Obama supports the legalized killing of human beings. There is no excuse for this. That is why I cannot vote for him.
