A Grocery Budget?

Filed under: What I'm into — by Kellie @ 9:12 pm

So I am trying to save money where I can.  I know one thing I can do is a grocery budget.  I am not very good at that kind of thing and I got totally overwhelmed when I googled for ideas.  Most of the people were so radical- nothing processed, only go to stores that triple coupons, etc…  Does anyone have any advice??

My Babes is Sick

Filed under: Lucy — by Kellie @ 10:00 pm

I just hate it when Lucy gets sick.  I’m sure every parent hates to see their kids in pain.  She has had a fever today and then started throwing up this evening.  You just feel so sorry for them when they are so miserable.  I just laid in bed by her praying.  I thought of families I know or know of who have kids with cancer and prayed for them.

Whenever I feel like her care is out of my control (which it always is) but I am more reminded of how fragile life is at times like this, I think of Psalm 121.

My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.  He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night. The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever.

It’s a good reminder for me that the Lord is our keeper, He is the only One who doesn’t sleep.  It reminds me of my weakness and how I need to trust in His sovereign goodness.

Are You Still With Me?

Filed under: Dustin — by Kellie @ 1:04 pm
We had lots of discussion when I first posted the hundred pushup challenge. But the questions is, have any of you been working towards doing it? When I started I did thirty pushups. I just finished week four and maxed out at sixty. I’m pretty happy with the improvement, but each week keeps getting harder and harder. Today I started week five, but wasn’t able to do it all. My work out for today was supposed to be:

Day 1

rest 60 seconds between each level (longer if required)

level 1 40
level 2 32
level 3 30
level 4 25
level 5 max (at least 40)
I did 40, 32, 25, 15, and then maxed out with 15. With only sixty seconds of rest between each level I just couldn’t do it. I will repeat this day a few times until I can complete it.

Musically Inclined?

Filed under: What I'm into — by Kellie @ 3:36 pm

Well I am not!  I feel sorry for the people who stand near me at church and hear my voice- and poor Dustin is always right next to me.  Thankfully he is a good singer and hopefully drowns me out.

I am also bad at remembering lyrics and learning the right lyrics to begin with.  For instance I have sang Holy, Holy, Holy many times at church and we sing it often as a family but I can usually only do one, if that, verse on my own- and it’s usually the middle one!

As far as learning lyrics when I was a kid I thought the lyrics to Proud to be an American were:  I’m proud to be an American where at least I know my name- what I didn’t think people in other countries knew their name?!  And the other day I was singing She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain to Lucy.  I was loudly singing she’ll be coming six by horses when she comes.  Dustin’s like, “What are you saying?”  I wished so bad I knew the right lyrics but I embaressedly told him- he’s like it’s white horses!  We both burst out laughing.  I’m sure there are many, many more that I just don’t know about it.

And as long as were saying embarssaing things when I am singing songs to Lucy I will often forget the tunes to songs- like even the ABC’s!  How does that happen.  At this point I’m just hoping Lucy takes after Dustin- but to be honest it doesn’t look that promising!

God’s love

Filed under: What I'm into, quotes — by Kellie @ 7:57 pm

I think I mentioned that our small group is going through the book How People Change. I just finished chapter 2 and continue to be really excited about this book.  In this chapter they quoted C.S. Lewis – it’s a bit long but I thought it was really good and wanted to share it.

In awful and suprising truth, we are the objects of His love.  You asked for a loving God; you have one. The great spirit you so lightly invoked, the “lord of terrible aspect,” is present; not a senile benevolence that drowsily wishes you to be happy in your own way, not the cold philanthropy of a conscientiuos magistrate, not the care of a host who feels responsible for his guests, but the consuming fire Himself, the Love that made the worlds, persistent as the artist’s love for his work and despotic as a man’s love for a dog, provident and venerable as a father’s love for a child, jealous, inexerobale, exacting as love between the sexes… it is certainly a burden of glory not only beyond our deserts but also, excpet in rare moments of grace, beyond our desiring.

Geeked Out

Filed under: Dustin, Lucy — by Kellie @ 9:15 am

As many of you know my husband is a bit into presidential history.  Needless to say when we arrived at Custer State Park and Dustin found out that Calvin Coolidge spent a summer there as president, he got a little excited.  Here is a picture of him at his desk.

Of course we went to Mount Rushmore too.  Dustin taught Lucy the four president’s on the mountain.  She slept most of the time we were at Mount Rushmore.  Dustin was a bit disappointed that it didn’t include more presidential history – it mainly had information about the building of it.  Here are some pics.

South Dakota Trip

Filed under: Extended Family, Lucy — by Kellie @ 4:22 pm

Dustin, Lucy and I made the trek to South Dakota over the 4th.  We had a family reunion out there.  It was a lot of driving but beautiful country.  We all had a great time and had a lot of fun with my family and with extended family.  I will be posting pics!

Lucy made good use of Boppa and Nana’s dvd player in their new van.

We traveled mainly with my Mom and Al, and Mitch and Kate.  Made the ride go a lot faster.

Softies

Filed under: Lucy — by Kellie @ 9:14 am

Dustin and I both are real softies sometimes.  Last night Lucy laid in our bed until almost midnight just chitter chattering!  She had taken a late, long afternoon nap so I felt like it was partially my fault.  Also the iced chai we shared at Target around 8pm probably didn’t help either!  The baby was moving like crazy too- so I felt pretty to blame for the whole ordeal.

The sweet moments made it all worth it.  She offered to rub Dad’s back, which he eagerly accepted.  When she was done she said, “Thank you Daddy for letting me do that.”  She also told us numerous times that she loved us and the baby.

Dustin just came in and saw me writing this post and said you are going to announce it to the world that we let our daughter stay up until almost midnight?!
