Story Hour

Filed under: Lucy, What I'm into — by Kellie @ 2:14 pm

How do you follow up on noman?!  Loved all the comments that was fun- almost made me scared to post again.  How can I keep up the hype?

Anyway thought I would post about Story Hour.   We go and Lucy just loves it.  The librarian does a great job of engaging the kids.  Not only do they read books, they sing songs, learn the days of the week and have a letter of the day.  I really feel like Lucy has learned alot there.  Also I love how I have seen her grow from staying by me to eagerly sitting in the front row.  Although now that she’s so comfortable she often will interupt the librarian – of course it’s always important, usually something about Cinderella or her lip gloss!

Oh and I almost forgot to mention – it’s free!  Which is always a nice plus.

Frosty the Noman

Since it was such a balmy day here- in the 40’s- Dustin and Lucy made a snowman, or noman as Lucy calls it.  I think it is the smallest snowman I have ever seen!  Dustin said he thinks it’s the first snowman he ever has made.  He must have had a pretty deprived childhood!  I have many memories of making snowmen.

خبز و زتر

Filed under: Arab culture — by Kellie @ 3:38 pm

On Friday I spent the day with a good friend who is a really good cook- and she makes it look so easy!  Well on Friday she made bread with zatar.  It was so yummy especially fresh out of the oven.  I am going to attmept it this week and see how mine turns out.  I thought I would include the recipe for all to enjoy.

Ingredients:

5 cups flour (2 whole wheat, 3 white)         2 Tbsp. yeast
1 cup Oil (1/2 olive, 1/2 veg.)                    4 Tbsp. sugar
4 Tbsp. powdered milk               1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 Tbsp. salt                                            2 cups water

Mix dough.  Let rise for 2 hours.  Knead dough several times while it’s rising.  Soak zatar (2 cups) in water for half hour, then strain out.  Add zatar to dough.  Break dough into balls.  Make balls flat, put some shredded cheese in the middle and form into ball, flatten again and put on pan.  Bake on 400 on bottom rack about 8 minutes.  When you see change of color put on top rack for broil about 1-2 minutes- watch so they don’t burn.

Tastes so yummy!!  You can also buy lamb or beef and sautee with onion, allspice and put that in the middle.  The nice thing about these is it makes alot.  You can freeze pull out of the freezer and warm up in the microwave for a quick lunch.

Rites of Passage

My brothers, Mitch and Jared and their families, visited this weekend. My brother Mitch had shaved his head and all the others just decided on a whim to join him. Dustin said it just seemed too fun to miss out on. He was regretting it the next morning when he had to go to church. Good thing he didn’t have to preach- I think it would have been too distracting for the congregation!

The other rite of passage was my little niece Zoe got her ears pierced. I think Jared and Emilie both regretted the decision- they can’t stand to see Zoe cry. I don’t think Jared had ever seen her cry like that- she’s such a good baby. She didn’t cry long at all. I thought Jared was going to faint- seriously! I felt kind of guilty because it was sort of my idea to do it!

Funny Story

Filed under: Lucy — by Kellie @ 4:13 pm

At least I thought it was funny. Last night on our way to Small Group Lucy says, “Mom I want to cut these like Millie.” Millie is the oldest girl in our small group at 5 years old. I said cut what like Millie? “These white things.” Finally I had to turn around to see what she was talking about and she is pointing to her teeth! Millie has lost a couple of teeth. I said you don’t cut them they just fall out.

Feminine Appeal

Filed under: What I'm into — by Kellie @ 10:05 pm

My friend Rachel and I just started reading this book together. Today we went through chapter one. I think I am going to really enjoy it. The book is based on the following verses in the Bible that talks about how us as women can adorn the word of God.

Titus 2:3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

As I read that over I know I have a long ways to go!! I’m sure maybe some of you reading this cringe at some of the words mentioned but I think when understood in a Biblical context they are beautiful, albeit hard, but beautiful things.

Dustin and some friends went snowtubing that past Saturday. Looks pretty fun. Rachel, Khowla and I got to chase the kids all day. I think they got the better end of the deal, although of us ladies did have a good time!

Lucy’s Prayer Requests

Filed under: Extended Family, Lucy — by Kellie @ 1:49 pm

We were able to see Dustin’s sister Tasha yesterday. She lives in Oregon but she had a 3 hr. layover on her way to Iowa. We had a great time. One of the things that came out during those 3 hours was that Tasha doesn’t like green peppers. That night for supper we were eating some cut up and Lucy mentioned this fact. She was just astounded that Tasha didn’t like them. She kept saying but they are good! Then she said Mom you pray for her about green peppers! Later that night when I put her to bed she wanted me to pray for bear’s salvation! Every night I pray for her salvation but that was the first time I had ever heard her say the word. I told her we didn’t need to pray for toy’s salvations just people’s – she didn’t really agree!
