Do you think she had fun?

We spent the last two days with Dustin’s family (minus Tash- we missed you!) in Iowa celebrating Christmas. A good time was had by all- but especially by little munchkin. As you can see she found “dress up” clothes- she also found lip gloss, nail polish, old barbies and various other things to keep her entertained. I think her favorite part of the whole time was roasting marshamallows in the fireplace downstairs. She mentioned it several times on the way home.

Merry Christmas!
We read the Christmas Story at my Mom’s house and the kids acted it out. It was pretty cute. Lucy was Mary. She was pretty excited about it. Zoe was baby Jesus, Nate was a shepherd, Ryan was Joseph and Pay was the donkey! Of course that meant Ryan wanted to be a donkey too but he settled for riding the donkey instead- making his pregnant wife walk!

Eid Mubarak
Today is Eid Al Adha, a holiday celebrated in Islam. It means the Festival of Sacrifice. My understanding from friends is that they do this to remember when Abraham was going to sacrifice his son, but God provided a sacrafice in the son’s place (see here) In many places in the world a goat will be sacrificed and meat will be given to the poor. It’s a good reminder for me to remember God’s mercy and an awesome reminder of God’s love in the ultimate sacrifce for me, Jesus.
So if you run into any Muslim friends today congratulate them by saying Eid Mubarak (which basically is like saying Happy Holidays!).

Girl Ryan
I have been waiting to post b/c I really wanted to post a picture with what I wrote but there is something wrong with the computer. So I guess this will be pictureless! We had my cousin Chad’s daugther, Ryan at our house Thursday night. She is 3 1/2 and is such a little dolly. Lucy and her had a great time together. Lucy was calling her sister. It was pretty cute. She would say to me, “Mom, my sister has curlers in her hair.” etc. Finally I said she’s not your sister. To which she replied, “I know. I’m just pretending.” They played princesses and house alot! I put curlers in Ryan’s hair over night – it looked so cute. I’m hoping now that Lucy has seen the results she’ll keep the curlers in over night! By the way she’s girl Ryan b/c my sister’s son about the same age is boy Ryan- keeps down on confusion when they are together and Lucy insisted still calling her that even though boy Ryan was not around!

A Good Quote
I started reading The Discipline of Grace today. I read this quote and thought it was very good.
Your worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God’s grace. And your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God’s grace

Adorable
At lunch Kellie went upstairs and I stayed with Lucy (she often has marathon meals, eating lots over long periods of time). She did something cute and I told her that she was adorable. Then I asked her, “Lucy, who do you think is adorable?”
“Me!”
“Yes,” I replied, “but who else do you think is adorable?”
“Mommy and you.”
“Do you know who else I think is adorable? I think baby Zoe is adorable. Do you think baby Zoe is adorable?”
“Yeah, and her mommy too.”
So I asked her, “What about her daddy?”
She thought long and hard about this and then said, “Her daddy too.”
With both Jared and me on the list, I began wondering if she knows what “adorable” means.

Revival in the Bathtub?
Ever since a friend of ours was baptized Lucy has been pretty fascinated with it. Dustin said tonight when he was giving her a tub she “baptized” all of her little people. She was very deliberate about it to- taking each out of the tub and then putting them in and dunking them backwards! Of course Dustin used it as a talking point that people get baptized to show they believe in and love Jesus. She is always cracking us up!
