That is the book I am reading right now by Larry Crabb. So far it hasn’t been earth shattering but I have really liked it. The following I read today I really identified with after the death of Owen.
When Shaddai allows terrible pain to come into our lives, He is removing a satisfaction, often a legitimate one like the enjoyment of one’s spouse, that keeps us happy and content whether we know God well or not. He is taking away good food to make us hungry for better fare. But then He doesn’t seem to give it. The table stays bare. Those who claim otherwise most often are feeding on their own resources or on their remaining blessings, mistaking them for God. Those who, like C.S. Lewis after his wife died, find heaven’s door slammed shut, discover their desire for God but not God Himself. It’s at that point either we dismiss God and live to satisfy lesser desires or we wait. . . . It is the frustration of our desire for God that deepens it…. If your seeking God in the middle of shattered dreams, if you’ve become aware of your desire for Him but are having trouble finding Him, be encouraged that it bothers you. The more you’re bothered by not finding Him, the more aware you’re becoming of how badly you want Him.
