Kid Genius Update

Filed under: Lucy — by Kellie @ 2:19 am

Dustin wants me to post this, although he was afraid it would sound like bragging! I said maybe alot of two year olds can do it. So we’ll see what you all think. Lucy can count to ten. It’s pretty cute. She covers her eyes with her hands when she does it. This is because she associates it with hide-and-seek. It’s pretty adorable even if it’s not genius material! Of course after ten she sort of repeats half of them throws in a thirteen and then starts her abc’s. Which latley she’s been starting at h- she had up to there down now I think she’s trying to learn the next part!

Not Much News

This past week I have been suffering from a sinus infection! I finally broke down and went to the Dr. today. Hopefully the antibiotic will kick in soon. She told me that I am a good candidate for the surgery. She gave me a superdose (3 weeks) of antibiotics and if I get another one before fall she is going to send me to the specialists. In a wierd way I just want the surgery if it means relief from these infections! I wonder how much more energy I would have through out the year?

The Next Step?

Filed under: adoption — by Kellie @ 11:46 pm

We are eagerly waiting to begin our next step in the adoption process. We are almost done with our homestudy. We are just waiting for the final report to be finished. I have completed our profile books- almost. Close enough that if they told us we were done I could have them finished in an hour and sent off to the agency!

I thought since I had told you all about why we wanted to adopt and the family that had impacted us I wanted to share with you a little about them. Their names our Kyle and Sharon Hastings. We were on a prayer group with them and they were praying for two Ukranian orphans. I don’t have the story exactly but God worked in their hearts that they adopted these two girls who were older than their other 3 children. It was so neat to see. Now 7 years later I have worked with Lida several times in the nursery and she is really a remarkable young woman. It’s so fun to see how God knit the whole families hearts together and how much these girls have thrived. Out of that Kyle and Sharon have started their own ministry to help others adopt. Please check it out: The Lydia Fund

Blaise Pascal

I thought this quote went well with the verses I was meditating on this week.

Our imagination so magnifies the present, because we are continually thinking about it, and so reduces eternity, because we do not think about it, that we turn eternity into nothing and nothing into eternity.

Profiles 3

Filed under: adoption — by Kellie @ 6:09 pm

One of the questions we wanted to answer in our profile was why we want to adopt. I thought some of you might be wondering the same thing. Here is what we had to say.

You might be wondering since we are biologically able to have children why we want to adopt. God put this desire on our hearts when we were first married. We were able to watch friends go through the adoption process and thought it was a beautiful way to build a family. It was such a joy to see God knit the hearts of those children with this family. Also, we are drawn to adoption because it’s a wonderful picture of what God has done by making us His children.

After losing a child we realize what gifts children are and how precious it is to love and be loved by a child. We do not take it for granted and count being parents one of the greatest privileges in our lives.

We want you to know that we will love unconditionally the child God puts in our family just as we do our other children. We know that being a parent brings great joy and along with that deep pain, we would be committed to this child through it all. We will do all we can to cherish and protect the children God gives us.

Slight and Momentary Afflictions

Filed under: Bible, What I'm into — by Kellie @ 11:50 pm

This week I am trying to meditate on the following. “For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

That is from 2 Corithians when Paul is writing to a group of believers at Corinth about all the persecution he has undergone to share the good news of Jesus Christ. I know right now my afflictions are very slight but they still afflict me! (I am so weak.) But even in my “small” afflictions I am trying to remember that they are producing for me an eternal weight of glory. And to remeber that each one of them is brought into my path by a loving Father shaping me to more perfectly reflect His image.

Today I made a list of things in my life that are temporal and then I made an eternal list. I asked God to really help me to focus on the eternal things and to not get caught up in the temporal. And to reveal to me any temporal things I was putting to much emphasis on.

I am thankful that God is so patient with me and faithful to teach me the Scriptures.

The Library

Okay – call me a nerd but I love the library. Lucy and I frequent there often. The Roseville one has a great children’s section- it has a little kitchen set, puppets, a Thomas the train station, and of course books! One perk I often enjoy is free older movies or fifty cents for new releases.

Today though was the grandaddy of all perks. The Library has museum passes that you can check out and get into various places around the Twin Cities for free. So today we (Lucy, Boppa, Nanna and I) went to the Science Museum for free, normally that would cost about $50.00.

Okay maybe I love the library because I’m just cheap! But it’s so fun when you know the value of something and that you get it for free! If you want to check it out – here is the link.

More Birthday

Filed under: Lucy — by Kellie @ 2:35 am

Lucy had a fun day. Her aunts Kathy and Tonya and her Uncle Matt drove all the way up from Iowa to see her. We also met her cousins at Build-a-Bear at the Mall of America. I think she was more excited to see them than to make a bear. Here she is enjoying her cupcake in a cone.
